Sharp-winged Teal:

UK Status: Non resident, but can be found in zoo's and wildlife parks. It is native to South America, and is found in Argentina, the Falkland Isles, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Uruguay and Brazil.

Habitat: This duck prefers fresh water wetlands, but is occasionally found on sluggish rivers.

Breeding: This birds breeding season varies from early, to quite late in the season. Breeding activity appears to peak in August and September. Nests are built amongst thick ground vegetation, on the forks of trees, or holes in embankments. An average clutch of eggs is from six to nine, these take about twenty five days to hatch. Both sexes take part in caring for their young which fledge at about six to seven weeks of age.

Comment: This duck is also known as the Yellow-billed Teal, the Sharp-winged Teal along with the Chilean Teal are considered sub species of the Yellow-billed Teal.
