Sunbittern:

UK Status: Non resident, but can be found in tropical houses, zoos etc.

Habitat: This bird is found in Central and South America and has three sub-species, the range of this species extends from Guatemala to Brazil. They live in humid neo-tropical forests, usually near to rivers, streams, lakes, and swampland. These habitats vary from two thousand five hundred feet, to six thousand feet in altitude,

Breeding: Takes place between in the earlier part of the wet seson. They lay two blotchy coloured eggs in open nests, situated in trees.

Comment: Sunbitterns get the name sun from their extremley bright plumage that can only be seen when they spread their wings.
