Yellow-bellied Terrapin:

UK Status: Non native, though can be seen in the wild, as well as zoos, wildlife parks and tropical houses in the UK.

Habitat: The origin of this terrapin is the south eastern USA. It likes swamps, permanent pools, flood plains, slow moving rivers and most other wetland habitats.

Breeding: This terrapin mates in the water, and nests on land. Baby terrapins are carniverous and eat insects, tadpoles, small fish and various invertebrates. As they mature they eat less, and less meat products. By the time they are mature they are ninety five percent vegatarian, eating mostly plants.

Comment: This terrapin is also called the Yellow-bellied Slider. Because of it's popularity as a pet, it has been introduced to other countries.
