Domestic
Geese:
UK Status: Mostly mon
native imported breeds.
Habitat: These domestic
geese are to be found on poultry farms, in bird collections and they
occasionally escape and live in the wild.
Types and Variations: There
are many varieties of domesticated geese, and they for the most part are
hybrids, originally bred from wild stock. There are several species of
all white domestic geese, one of which is illustrated on this page.
Domestic geese come in a wide range of plumage colouration, and are
found all over the world.
Breeding: It's not too
unusual for a feral domestic goose to partner with a known wild species
of goose, sometimes producing hybrids. Most geese usually nest on the
ground, laying eggs mainly in spring.
Comment: Most avid bird
watchers will, or hve seen feral geese from time, to time.
