Common Sow Thistle:

UK Status: Native, and a common resident to the British Isles.

Flowering Period: Flowering starts from as early as late April to early June, and finishes between late August to mid September.

Appx Height: Depending upon soil type and fertility, this plant can grow up to 1.5 metres tall, or even taller. It is a perennial, and takes one two two years to grow to it's maximum height.

Habitat: This plant is a member of the same family as the Dandelion, and has a strong tap root. The bright yellow flowers are similar in appearance to Dandelion, and the leaves are also reminiscent of Dandelion. Sow thistles are found in a wide variety of habitats, including gardens, parks, allotments, waste ground, disused railway lines and many other situations.

Comment: In the British Isles the Sow Thistle is very common, though is scarcer further north.
