Bee Orchid:

UK Status: Resident.

Appx Height: 15cm to 30cm tall, sometimes more.

Flowering Period: June and July.

Habitat: This orchid colonises places disturbed by human activities, however it will not tolerate over mowing, or being crowded out by scrub growth. Preferring open grassy areas on poor well drained calcareous, or sandy soils. Downs, heaths, meadows are habitats of choice, and some times in the edge of infrequently mown lawns.

Comment: In the UK this orchid is more common in south east England, and is found in a few parts of south west England, and is mainly coastal in Wales. Also found in a few places in north west England, and northern Ireland. It is fairly common in north east England.
