Specie's Page                                               Pensthorpe Natural Park, Norfolk

Pensthorpe Natural Park: This Nature Park was came about from a sustainable gravel extraction process founded by Bill Makins, to create a wetland conservation area. At the time it was over two hundred acres, after more than a million tonnes of gravel was extracted.

In 2003 Bill and Deb Jordan bought the park, with the goal of extending it's size and value to wildlife. This Natural Park is now over 700 acres in size, and is one of the most bio diverse area's to be found in Britain. Home to many hundreds of species of wildlife, including a very diverse range of water fowl.

I can heartily recommend this place to all wildlife enthusiasts, the admission fee is well worth it, to spend a few hours in this beautiful haven. Rare species of birds can be seen like the Egyptian Geese, Red-crested Pochard, Ferruginous Duck and Common Goldeneye.

Pensthorpe also have a very large aviary, that is so natural inside. you have to see it to believe it. In this aviary the staff breed rare and endangered species, to be later released into the wild. Species to be found in the Aviary include Bearded Reedling, Northern Shoveler, Pied Avocet, Turtle Dove, Ruff, Black-winged Stilt and quite a few other species.

Pensthorpe village dates back to Anglo Saxon times, there are the remnants of a church from the early Middle Ages where the parks cafe is situated. Nearby in the past a graveyard from the middle ages was discovered. This park is easy to find, in the Fakenham area of Norfolk, on reaching the outskirts of Fakenham, the are plenty of brown signs to point you in the right direction.
