Roundhay Park: Opened in 1872, and Roundhay Park is one of the biggest city parks in Europe. There are many events held here, such as music festivals, horticultural displays and sporting events, including boating. This park is over seven hundred acres in size and is very wooded in parts with mainly mature deciduous trees.

Roundhay park used to be privately owned and has a grand Mansion House situated close to the Upper Lake. This park has many features which include the Monet Garden, Alhambra and Canal gardens. It is also home to Tropical World which houses a Butterfly House, glass houses, aquariums, and a desert house. In Tropical World there are many exotic creatures and plants to be seen.

There are two lakes in the park which include the smaller Roundhay Upper Lake, and the much larger twelve hectare Waterloo Lake. The lakes with there joining stream and acres of woodland are home to many wild indigenous creatures, plants and insects. The lakes themselves have a large number of wide ranging waterfowl, not to mention other waterside birds such as wagtails.

Waterloo lake was built by the Nicholson's, who employed soldiers returning from the Napoleonic Wars to dam up the old quarry mine, and was completed in 1815. Hence the name of the lake, in the memory of the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Waterloo'.
