Crested Partridge:

UK Status: Non resident, introduced to zoos and parks.

Habitat: This bird is found in Indonesia, in countries such as South Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. This is a bird of dense forests.

Breeding: Nesting only in lowland forests, the nest is just a scrape in the ground, disguised with a heap of leaf litter. There are five or six white eggs in a clutch, and the eggs take about eighteen days to hatch. Unusually for this family of birds, the young are fed beak to beak, although they are capable of foraging themselves.

Comment: This bird is also called the Crested Wood Partridge, Roul Roul, Red-crowned Wood Partridge, Green Wood Quail, or Green Wood Partridge. These birds feed on fruit, seeds and invertibrates. When disturbed they prefer to run along the ground, but they can also fly short distances.
