Bactrian Camel:

UK Status: Non resident, and has a population of nearly two million, most of which are domesticated. There are also feral populations, and a few true wild ones.

Habitat: This wild version of the Bactrian Camel mostly live in the Lop Nur Wild Camel National Nature Reserve, in China. Also a smaller population live in the Great Gobi, a greatly restricted area in Mongolia. A few small herds exist in the Altun Shan wild camel nature reserve in China. They inhabit very arid plains and hills, and are very migratory.

Breeding: Numbering less than a thousand, these true Bactrian Camels are continuing to decline.

Comment: These camels are also known as Two-humped Camel and the Mongolian Camel.
