Small-clawed Otter:
UK Status: Non resident, it is found in South
East Asia including the islands of Sumatra, Borneo and Palawan.
Habitat:
This beautiful mammal inhabits rivers, streams, wetlands, swamps,
irrigated rice fields, coastal lagoons, mangroves and river estuaries.
these otters are present in West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, also
in the coastal regions of Odisha, Kamataka, Nilgiri, tamil Nadu. In
Tamil Nadu it lives in the Palni Hills in shallow mountain creeks, up to
an elevation of 2000 metres.
Breeding:
These otter pairs appear to be monogamous, and live in solitary pairs,
or small family groups of up to a dozen individuals. Nesting in
underground chambers, lined with grass, straw and other soft materials.
There is between one to seven pups in each litter, and there is
usually only one brood per year.

This otter is also known as the Oriental Small-clawed Otter, or just the
Small-clawed Otter.
