Cockatiel:

UK Status: Native to Australia, though this bird is popular all over the world as a pet. Also to be found in bird sanctuaries wildlife parks and zoo's.

Habitat: These birds inhabit a wide variety of habitats, including marshlands and wetlands, bushy and scrubby places which are the more favoured areas. These birds are seed eaters, and large flocks regularly raid farmers crops.

Breeding: This bird breeds  in cavities, mainly in trees, one to one point eight metres off the ground, but will also use purpose built nest boxes. In the wild Cockatiels start breeding to coincide with the wet season due to the greater abundance of seeds.. Cockatoo's lay several white slightly glossy eggs.

Comment: This bird is a member of the Cockatoo family of parrots, and is the only member of this genus. This species has many colour varieties due to the many mutations that occur. These birds tend to be nomadic, moving around looking for water, and more productive food supplies.
