Diamond Dove:

UK Status: This species is a native in Australia.

Habitat: These birds inhabit the semi arid areas of central Australia, when these areas become to dry, they can then turn up in gardens and parks in southern Australia. This dove has a very high tolerance to extreme heat.

Breeding: This bird build nests in trees and tall shrubs, the nest is a basic a flattish platform made of pine twigs woven together. Clutches consist of two white eggs, and the female incubate them for about fourteen days until they hatch. A fortnight later the chicks are usually feathered, and taking their first flight.

Comment: This bird is often seen on the ground, and it runs with a waddling like motion similar to that of a duck. They are strong, and direct fliers, sometimes with an undulating motion. As they fly there is often an audible whirring noise made by their wings.
